2009 Holiday Give-a-way Winners!

Using Random.org to select the winners, we send our congratulations to the follow three winners!

Please email Linda with your mailing addresses and you will shortly receive a little gift from Joni, Megan or Linda.

We so appreciate and are humbled by all the kind comments left this week.  What started as an idea about doing something no one else was doing and the big question of "who will want to listen to us?" has grown beyond our wildest expectations.

We've been joined by fellow blogger/designers: Eddie Ross & Jaithan Kochar of EddieRoss.com, Anna Spiro of Absolutely Beautiful Things, Jennifer Boles of The Peak of Chic, Patricia Shackleford of Mrs. Blandings, Brooke Giannettii of Velvet & Linen, and Susan Serra of The Kitchen Designer.

A really amazing group of design stars: Vicente Wolf, Suzanne Kasler, Alessandra Branca and Charlotte Moss.

And editors and writers: Karen Carroll, Judith Miller and Margaret Russell.

The collective talent and brain trust of these amazing fourteen people alone is awe inspiring. That they were all willing to take the time out of their busy schedules, download and install Skype (that's how we do it!) and chat away with has truly been a gift to us. Joni, Megan and I get to sit front row center along with all of you to learn from the best and I think we all feel we've grown professionally, and personally, because of this. If you missed any of those amazing interviews, check on the left hand sidebar for links.

And, finally, thank you to every one of you who reports listening to us in the car, on the stair master, while doing housework/cooking, or with a glass of wine and no interruptions. We know our podcasts can be long and you are all busy people - so we truly thank you for your time as well.

Wishing you all a very happy and healthy New Year. We'll be back during the first week in January with our interview with Stephen Drucker whom we chatted with a couple of weeks ago. He was fun and game to talk about anything and everything. And also coming in 2010 - Grant K. Gibson, Elizabeth Mayhew, Jackie von Tobel, and a surprise guest that Joni and I are particularly excited about (but can't announce just yet!)

A little off topic from the Christmas giveaway, but I have often wondered from listing to the SRT interviews how you go about selecting your guest? Also, do your guest read your design blogs? How far in advance of the podcast, do you record the interview and how is that accomplished. It would be interesting to learn about what goes on behind the scenes.

Hi Anon - thanks for your question about how we do SRT. We have spoken about how we do it in a casual way, but it's really quite easy. We all use Skype over our computers. So, I'm in Mass, Joni in Houston and Megan in LA and our guests are wherever they are. I record the conversation into my computer and edit the file using a software called Audacity. Editing is for sound levels, time and ums and silences only. I don't rearrange conversations (too much work!)and rarely edit out sections. The file is converted to an MP3 file and uploaded to a site called Podbean, which creates the sound player file, which is what we paste into the blog. It also uploads to iTunes.

We usually record on Monday nights, or at a time convenient to our guests where possible, and recording usually take place within a week of posting them, often within a day or two. The exception has been Stephen Drucker, whom we chatted with in early December, but decided to hold off posting till the first week in January since everyone was more concerned with the holidays at that point.

You'll have to ask our guests if they all read our blogs, but usually, they've all been at least familiar with one of us. Or someone on their staff or PR group knows of us. When we started, we asked fellow bloggers whom one or more of us were already connected to - we just considered ourselves lucky that anyone would take the time to do this! Each of us has brought our various connections to the table (so to speak!)Most of our guests have been the result of personal connections of one of the three of us. Some, like Vicente Wolf, we simply sent an email asking - although at the time he had Cote de Texas and BB8 on his blogroll. And, since we've been lucky enough to have such amazing people on, we're getting more and more inquiries from PR people as well. Since we only post 4 times a month and we want to keep at least 1, preferably 2 weeks for just us (we don't only want to be an interview show) it's getting harder to schedule people and we're ending up being more selective simply because of time. But we're open to any ideas and suggestions! We all learn so much from these conversations and there are so many interesting professionals out there in so many areas of the design field.

Hope this answered your question.

Hi Anon - thanks for checking in. Your trusty editor (moi) lallygagged her way through the holiday and is right this very minute doing the final edit on the podcast. It should be up within the next two hours. So, stay tuned!
