Interior Designer, Author, Fabric Designer, Blogger - Jackie Von Tobel

Jackie Von Tobel caught enjoying a moment of relaxation!

This week Jackie Von Tobel takes a rare hour off from work and stops by The Skirted Roundtable for a visit. We feel extremely lucky to share some time with Jackie, she is one busy lady. We all first met through the blogs - Jackie writes Jackie Blue (HERE) - but quickly learned there is a lot more to this lady from Las Vegas than just blogging. She is an interior designer by trade and had built up quite a large business in Vegas, even operating her own showroom.

Jackie, her husband and daughter - she also has two sons. Jackie's extremely handsome and talented husband is in advertising and is quite famous for writing one of the most successful ad campaigns "What Happens In Vegas, Stays In Vegas!!!!"

After many years of hard work running first her own faux painting company and then, an interior design firm, Jackie unexpectedly switched gears and became an author, quickly churning out two massive reference books on window treatments and bedding. These two books are fabulous resources, filled with her own charming illustrations. The amount of work and time it took to write these two books is beyond comprehension, each is filled with thousands of her drawings!

Jackie's first book is all about window treatments.

But wait, there is more. After her two books were published, Jackie was approached to bring her illustrations to life by creating her own fabric line. You can purchase her fabrics and pillows online HERE. And also in conjunction with her books, Jackie recently designed software for Minutes Matter that lets you customize your client's window treatments using her templates! Is there anything Jackie can't do???? To read all about her collaboration with Minutes Matter, go HERE.

Jackie's second book is all about bedding.

Jackie is full of stories on how to make your dreams a reality and how to get motivated to accomplish it all. Listening to her is truly inspiring, she makes you believe that "hey, if I can do it all, so can you." Well, that's not exactly true. Jackie is one-of-a-kind special, her humbleness keeps her from seeing how accomplished she truly is. Her lust for life is infectious and we all felt so motivated after listening to her life story. I hope you will too!

To coincide with Jackie's visit, we are hosting a giveaway, thanks to Miss Von Tobel - we are giving away a copy of each of her books! In order to enter the contest, you must go to Jackie's web site HERE, under Collections, and pick out your favorite fabric from Jackie's line. Come back to the Comment Section and tell us which is your #1 fabric pick! We will pick two winners from the list. The contest will run until next Thursday, February 25. So be sure to hurry and enter!

Thank you again Jackie for stopping by and putting the fire under us to push ourselves harder, because dreams do come true - it just takes a lot of sweat, determination, talent, patience, and hard labor!

I had to laugh at myself when you discussed the trends that the blog world has been talking about that's just making it to Pottery Barn, Target etc. When Pottery Barn did something recently I thought to myself, "oh, that's not new" like I was so smart.

I love the blue paisley, as well as the zebra stripe in jet! Jackie is so talented.
Moonflower Trellis ~ Jet is wonderful...
I must admit I loved them all.
I loved the post, most interesting... I would love to have her book on drapery
Love the way the 'Collections' section of Jackie's website is colorized to show how all of the patterns mix and match! The 'Cobalt' collection, and Circle Trellis|Indigo, in particular, are terrific!

I'm in love with fabrics, wish I had more rooms to fill. My favorite this visit is the Angelica - Candy...pink and green just "do it" for me right now.

I am with Karena, its the Paisley and Zebra Stripe for me, both current and always timeless. I probably would have to say for number one the Paisley, no the Zebra Stripe, no the Paisley. Sigh. It is all so great! Paisley. Just like my favorite dress as a little girl.

What beautiful, fresh-looking colors in her fabrics. I particularly liked Angelica ~ Aubergine. I've never used Aubergine in decorating, but perhaps it's time to do so. The entire collection is just lovely.

Jackie is such a dear person..I had the pleasure of meeting her three years ago at a International Window Covering Convention in Georgia.

I love both of her books..I have also enjoyed connected with her in the blog world too!

This past summer I had the pleasure of catching up with Jackie and we had lunch. She brought her drawings and fabric samples for me to see...I was sooo exited! What a sweetheart to share... A perfect example of her kindness and how open she is...

I am so thrilled for her and all the beautiful things she has created!

She is an inspiration to us all!

She is so sweet and very secure in her opinions.
Love Moonflower Trellis!
Enjoyed this interview, especially the part on the new trends, even though I don't ever go with trends. Joni...can't wait to see your grey walls...hope you'll show us on Cote de Texas.

Hi Ladies,

I loved listening to the posting, as I do, over and over again your past ones! They are my favourite thing to listen to while cleaning my bathrooms or exercising, it just makes the chores so much easier!!! Jackie's discussion was interesting, chatting about the trends coming from Europe. Being English and having moved from Belgium to Tokyo just last year, I brought with me a huge and very heavy solid oak, limed ever so slightly, modern dining table that seats 8. I was worried that it would look awkward in our modern apartment here, but everyone who comes in loves it and asks me where I bought it. We also have black, wenge wooden side tables, chests of drawers etc which complement the table. We have a low cupboard in shiny white which also looks fabulous along with the other pieces. So I think from what Jackie said, I am on trend "globally" at this time, which makes me happy. Thanks ladies for another informative post.

By the way, I love the Cherry Blossom range and in particular the magenta paisley from Jackie's collection, particularly as it's Cherry Blossom time in Japan. She is such a talented lady, loved hearing her story.

What a great interview!!! Thank you so much ladies. I stumbled upon your website 2 weeks ago and have thoroughly enjoyed the interviews, especially Vicente Wolf's and this one today from Jackie Von Tobel.

Now, it was very hard to choose just one fabric - but I will say Moonflower Trellis in Jet from the Cinnabar Collection is at the top of my list - what great inspiration!

I am listening right now...but had to go over right away and see Jacie's fabrics. They are great! I have just bookmarked the site. I love the Paisley in Coffee fabric...especially the pillow in the larger version of the print. Maybe because I have been looking for something like this for awhile now. Because I like a lot of the others too! Great!

Mauve: : "Grape gum that has been chewed for three hours"...Megan you crack me up! And you are so right! I wonder if I will succumb to my most hated of all colors like I swore I never would when "jeggings" came out.(They really are comfortable and look great with riding boots...and a loooong shirt!...I couldn't help it.)
Raumkunst said…
Hands down Moon Flower Trellis in all color ways. I liked the clean geometric behind the stylized flowers, the chinoiserie effect, and all the clean, clear colors. The choice of background in white or oyster gives it even greater flexibility. I can see it as upholstery, curtains and wall covering.

Your Roundtable discussion of the unlined linen trend seen in Cologne was interesting. What you may not realize is that in Germany and much of Middle Europe the most common alternative is no window treatments at all. There are such low light levels for so many months of the year that curtains are thought of as light barriers in the negative sense. New window technology has eliminated the need for heavy curtains to keep out cold. Lack of scorching sun obviates need for lining to preserve drapery fabric. Unlined linen, voiles and other sheer fabrics serve to decorate the window without much obscuring the little light there is. And, it is more affordable. There are solid reasons for the popularity.
'Fabric Slut': The best part of the interview and I can't believe the 3 of you just let it slide in and outta there without a remark! I would have been all over that. Seriously though, Jackie is gold medal material in my books. And of course my favorite is 'Suzani Sky'. Perfection for any beach town or beach inspired space (with or without stuffed elephants) Hugs to all of you! Thanks for sharing Jackie! LPxo
That was by far my favorite SRT yet ! (Of course, I'm one of those fabric sluts too) Being a WCAA member, I really enjoyed hearing everything Jackie had to say about the window coverings industry. I bought her window coverings book for Christmas and it is beautiful ! I would love to have one of her peacock pillows. Keep up the good work, girls.

One more super interesting discussion! I can't stop thank you all for those interviews... I always learn so much from them! Great story about Jackie Von Tobel... In my New Yorker preparation for the spring, I picked the "Damask ~ Kiwi"!
Ok, so my favorites are the Damask, Paisley, and Zebra. I think if I had to choose, it'd be the Paisley in Coffee. Thanks for asking. :) Great giveaway!

This line is Brilliant! I love the way they all compliment each other~ ~at least the 3 I check out; Wisteria, Saffron & Zhivago are all interchangable. I think the Birds & Branches is my favorite but I also love Quatrafoil in the Aubergine colorway with the B&B in Candy, yummy. Are their wallpapers to compliment this line?
Must go back and look it all over more closely. Stunning!

Hoping I win. Thank you so much.

I LOVE so many of the fabrics. But I think my very favorite was the Paisley in Ocean. I love colorful fabrics in general, but I have a weakness for paisley and for blue. So if I HAD to select just one - that would be my one. They really are all wonderful.
